Why I do pilates?

Pilates was created in the 1920s by German Joseph Pilates, who beautifully summarised the joy of practising his techniques by saying:

"In 10 classes you will feel the difference, In 20 classes you will see the difference, and in 30 classes you will have a whole new body." Joseph Pilates

Pilates is a mind body conditioning programme that targets core stability muscles that are essential in maintaining good posture and strength for all functions of daily living. When performed regularly it positively changes the body, improving tone and suppleness. As a trained physiotherapist, Lucy can really help each individual in a class achieve their personal goals through her understanding of movement dynamics. Importantly though, pilates is also a wonderful way to relax.

Lucy has been a physiotherapist for 20 years, specialising in musculoskeletal conditions and believes that pilates compliments physiotherapy perfectly. It can be used as a great form of exercise for all, in prevention against injury and in treatment of muscular pain. You will feel instant benefit after the classes and enjoy long term benefits if you attend regularly.

Testimonials

"After I had my third child I was told that my stomach muscles hadn't knitted back together and after ignoring the issue after baby no 2, I wanted to sort it. Pilates appealed as a form of exercise that could strengthen my core, find relaxing and manage on little sleep! Lucy's classes have become a wonderful bit of me time whilst I tone up my middle and strengthen the rest of my body. She really knows her stuff and makes the classes fun too." Mother, 36, 17.10.2014

"I started pilates with Lucy last November and it has been an excellent form of exercise, not only for my golf but for my total well-being. Pilates has given me a greater freedom of movement and increased flexibility that has most definitely improved my golf swing. More than that pilates for me has definitely been a superbly effective way to tone the body and decrease my body mass index. As a physiotherapist Lucy understands body function – I totally recommend her pilates sessions to you as they are effective and fun and not to be missed." Di Lawrence-Watt, 1.5.2013

"Your Pilates class, without a doubt, saved my life. With respect to my psoas muscle injury, pain-free days are now the norm .... with the occasional twinge to remind me to do some exercises! So my quality of life has improved ten-fold on that score. Your lessons have also helped with my more recent (though probably started off from the same fall) back and leg pains. I enjoy your classes as there is just enough repetition and routine so that I feel I know what am doing, and any new exercises are at the right level to encourage a bit of a challenge. Your "Tough Love" approach works well to keep us all motivated!!  You are uniquely aware of all our limitations and tailor the sessions accordingly, which is brilliant. More of a Group Physio session than a typical Pilates class...it works well for me. As I am unable to tend any if your other sessions due to work commitments, I would be devastated if the Thursday class stops. Keep up the good work (and I will too)!" Anon, 24.1.2015
